My fiance and myself sent our tests out…

My fiance and myself sent our tests out same day. The lab reported receiving them same day. Hers came back a week ago. And my date was suppose to be today. Now it mysteriously changed. Very poor service and very poor customer service. I would never use 23 and me again. Been 4 weeks and still no results. I feel let down by this company.

From sending the test off from the UK…

From sending the test off from the UK and to getting all the information back took 3 months.
I did the ancestry and health test, I have no health issues at all... apparently so the test says.
Yet in ‘real life’ I have bordering stage 5 kidney disease. So that was informative ????

Scam

Scam! Avoid!
They asked me to fill in my information.
They copied this information and sent it back as my report.
No detail whatsoever.
Health was all made up lies.
Disgusting thieves!

I received my results after a month…

I received my results after a month which is great! The report is very thorough and I recommend the health and ancestry one because it does tell you a lot more. Please don't be put off by the other comments. It is a bit pricey though so look out for discounts and offers.
Overall I am very satisfied. I wish they would give discounts to people who participate in their research because they are making money on our backs. Hopefully they'll consider that and also reduce the price as the more people send their dna the better the service and more accurate the results and their database. It's a win win.

Great fun

Great fun. Able to identify relatives accurately. Interesting breakdown of where I’m from! Totally worth it! Traits are a bit of fun.

My initial experience with 23andme was…

My initial experience with 23andme was very positive. However, I then started clicking through the results and my heritage changed! It changed with quite a lot - a percentage change of 35.7% in my ancestry composition! I took photos and emailed 23andme. My question was simple: which of the two analyses presented to me by 23andme is correct? I tried many times to get an answer from 23andme, but their customer care department never answered this question. It might be that their app and website development are buggy, or it might be that the underlying data is corrupt. Whilst this is a very disappointing customer experience, still more concerning is that they want to give health advice based on your genetic sequence. If the data changes or the analyses and reports are linked to two different samples, how can anyone be sure they are getting the right medical advice or even the medical advice linked to their DNA?

Save your money don’t buy

Bought a kit and was so excited to receive my results 2 months after sending it off. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT! It gave me results saying I was only English where no one in my recent relatives are from England, no French or Norwegian or Scottish baring in mind my father, mother, grandparents are all from these countries. Highly inaccurate and a waste of time and money. Doubt they’ll give me a refund as they seem extremely stubborn. They can track <2% Neanderthal however can’t track where my parents are from! Absolute joke

weird and unusual return shipping of my DNA sample

Ordered the test kit. Received it fairly quickly. Spit in the tube (my DNA sample), sent it back in the box and label provided on Friday December 4, entered the USPS system on the same day, and 2 weeks later, 23andme still has not received it. At one point USPS tracking said it was out for delivery on Monday December 14, but as of Friday December 18, it still has not delivered. It is USPS first class, and it only had to travel about 265 miles (from Alexandria VA to Burlington NC), but with 2 full weeks in the USPS system it still has not been delivered. As a result, I had 23andme cancel my order and issue me a refund (that much I give credit to 23andme.) Then I explained why I cancelled. They replied to me that even though it it was USPS first class, it is treated differently by the USPS than other first class mail because the USPS handles 23andme mail differently, and that it is not unusual for it to take 2 to 4 weeks to arrive.
My problem is:
1 Because I do not remember ever being informed about this weird and unusual treatment in shipping my DNA sample back to 23andme, I ask: Why couldn't 23andme be upfront to me about the long shipping times and the fact that it will be treated differently (more like snail mail than first class) than normal USPS mail when I first bought the product or even before I sent the sample back to them? Why couldn't 23andme be more considerate and upfront to their customers?
2. With my package out for delivery on Monday December 14 and not delivered by Friday the 18th, I find it disrespectful and even suspicious to have my DNA sample in federal custody in a manner that it disappears for a long period of time!
For these reasons, I feel they deserve a one star and that customers should think twice before entrusting their DNA sample to 23andme.
Caveat Emptor!

Genetic equals Nationality, not scientific!

They just simplified their reports, so your background is your nationality. It is not scientific! Maybe they get the results from your facebook account?

If you want your GENETIC data shared outside the US, don't use this site.

If you want your GENETIC data shared outside the US, don't use this site. So they delete your account after you've consented to let them use the data as they want after YOU PAY for their mass genetic data collection and research efforts. Deleting your online account doesn't mean that your genetic data hasn't been recorded, kept and shared in the US and offshore, where there are no data protection laws. Our data is not currently protected by our government like it is in Europe. Not to mention the results are unreliable at best.

A Sunday morning astrology column is more informative.

The information provided is no better than a Sunday morning astrology column in some news rag. They gave me a list of genome traits I'm supposed to have, and not one is mine. Maybe they got the wrong spit. And I bought the deluxe $500.00 version, where you get "free" (HA!) consultation for a year. What a laugh; if I was poor I'd cry. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! You can have mine, it will surely be as relative for you as it was for me.

A SCAM!!!

I don't think any competences of 23andMe were utilised as the results were copied from the survey I had filled out prior to my genotyping. Additionally, the traits that weren't asked in the questionnaire but were shown in my traits results were completely the opposite. Hence, I feel I have been deceived by the company and will not be using them in the future nor will be recommending it to my friends and family.

Scam in the sense they they are mad genetic data collecting on the population for research purposes, while you think you're getting your individual results and you're done. Consumers are basically paying 23andme (and similar) to data collect and use your genetic data as they want, and there's no deleting that.

In my opinion they are a very disorganized dishonest company that has zero interest in their customers.
